Publication, Score, Reading Performance, 2022
Begrenzt Grenzenlos is a collaboratively written text by Emilia Sting, Julia Höft, and me, reflecting on our experiences studying at an art university—and everything that comes with it: sleepless nights, open-ended assignments, the paradox of boundless freedom that can sometimes feel paralyzing. And, of course, the ever-present struggle of cycling to university against relentless winds and pouring rain—a defining aspect of studying in northern Germany, where stormy weather is a given.
The text incorporates simple movement exercises designed to be performed while reading, creating an embodied experience of its themes. We read and performed it during Körper Betont, an exhibition we co-curated in September 2022 at Weserburg, Museum für moderne Kunst, Bremen.
We published the text as a printed edition, which was distributed to visitors for the reading performance and could be taken home. The layout encourages the text to be read as a score, intended to be performed by three people.
